NEW ORLEANS - After helping guide the Tulane men's basketball team to a perfect 2-0 start in American Athletic Conference play with a pair of wins on the road, Green Wave sophomore guard Jonathan Stark was named the American Player-of-the Week as it was released on Monday.
Stark averaged 23.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in the two road wins that included a 67-69 win at East Carolina and a 74-66 victory at Memphis. Stark poured in a game-high 22 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists in the win at East Carolina. He also connected on 8-of-11 field goals, including four-of-five from three-point range against the Pirates.
The Munford, Tennessee, native then scored a season-high 24 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out four assists and had three steals in Tulane's first win at Memphis since 1992. Stark also hit three 3-pointers, including his final one with 2:53 remaining in the game that gave the Green Wave the lead for good.
Stark and the Green Wave return to Devlin Fieldhouse for the conference home-opener against Temple on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT.
